Baby dies after being hit by van

MADISON - A tragic story out of Madison where a one-year-old girl is dead after being hit on the street.

This happened Thursday around 3:30 a.m.

Police say the baby was in a wheelchair that was being used as a stroller. Her mother says she let go of the wheelchair because she thought she dropped something. The wheelchair rolled down a driveway and into the street. It was then hit by a van.

The baby died soon after the crash.

There's no evidence the driver of the van did anything wrong.

Police are investigating.
