MADISON - There's new information about the man accused of setting off a bomb scare in the state Capitol building.
Recent criminal complaints show Kvon Smith had run-ins with police prior to his arrest Tuesday night.
That's when Smith allegedly carried four homemade bombs into the state Capitol ahead of the State of the State speech
Police were on the lookout after he allegedly posted a threat on Facebook.
He was arrested as soon as he entered the building.
Former complaints against Smith included struggles with police officers and making paranoid comments.
According to federal court documents, Smith also filed a strange lawsuit against several organizations.
Smith's family says he is battling several mental illnesses.
One of Smith's relatives suggested he stopped taking medication for bipolar disorder and possible schizophrenia.
"Kvon do not need to go to jail, he needs to go to a hospital. He needs doctors, nurses. He needs someone to help him,” said Kiyi Aikens, Smith’s mother.
Police have recommended prosecutors charge Smith with four felonies, including possession of molotov cocktails.
