Man sentenced for mother's death

MERRILL (AP) - A Wisconsin man convicted of killing his mother and staging her death as an accident blames his military service in Iraq for his crime.

Twenty-five-year-old Chase Boruch was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Monday afternoon in Lincoln County Circuit Court. Judge Glenn Hartley told Boruch that blaming the government for his crime is a slap in the face to every veteran. Boruch told the judge he had seen some horrible things in Iraq that put him out of touch with society.

Boruch was earlier convicted in the 2010 death of his mother, Sally Pergolski. Boruch said his mother had crashed their truck into a lake. But prosecutors say Boruch staged the crash in order to claim insurance money.

The Wausau Daily Herald says his attorney plans an appeal.
