Community unites following loss of a Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy

MILWAUKEE - The community is coming together following the loss of Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy Sergio Aleman after a crash.  

It happened Tuesday afternoon on I-43 in Milwaukee.

Two memorial funds have been set up to benefit Aleman's wife and five children, and an event has been planned in Aleman's name.

Milwaukee County Supervisor Peggy Romo West says the upcoming eighth annual Southside National Night Out Safety Event August 8th will be held in memory of Deputy Aleman.

It's an event where kids gather signatures from officers, and whoever gets the most signatures wins prizes.

"We just want to make sure we're paying him all the tribute we can. It really is an honor to do this event in his name, because this was such a big loss for Milwaukee County," West said.

Additionally, two separate funds have been established for Aleman's family. They're in an unimaginable place right now, according to Sheriff David Clarke, who addressed the media Wednesday afternoon.

"We empathize with their pain, considering his lifetime of service," Sheriff Clarke said.

"He has a very big family. Not just a family, but his law enforcement family and this is a tremendous loss that we suffered in Milwaukee County, and we all feel it," West said.
