Dems want deeper look into mass shootings

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin Democrats are calling for a deeper look into what has caused a spate of mass shootings around the country, including two in the last five months here in the Dairy State.

Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca, a Kenosha Democrat, says the time for action has come after Adam Lanza killed 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., on Friday. The shooting comes after attacks at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek in August and a Brookfield spa in October.

Barca says he plans to talk to Republican Gov. Scott Walker on Tuesday about setting up a bipartisan commission to examine mass shootings.

Rep. Fred Kessler, a Milwaukee Democrat, meanwhile says he's working on several bills to address mental health, ammunition and assault weapons.
