Fort McCoy says it has $1 billion economic impact

FORT MCCOY, Wis. (AP) - Fort McCoy says the U.S. Army installation in Monroe County had an economic impact of about $1 billion in the last fiscal year.

The training post totaled work force payroll, operating costs and other expenditures for the year which ran from Oct. 1, 2011 to Sept. 30, 2012.

Nearly 2,900 people are employed at the fort, located between Sparta and Tomah. That amounts to about $124 million for civilian and military personnel. Operating costs include new construction, maintenance, utilities and supplies.

The fort says it used a gross multiplier index of 3.2 was used to determine the overall effect of the expenditures in the local economy.

The economic impact is down slight from $1.3 billion in the last fiscal year.
