MADISON (AP) - Wisconsin state Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald is far behind in campaign fundraising compared to the two other Republicans running for the U.S. Senate.
Fitzgerald reported Tuesday that his campaign has raised just $77,000.
Former governor Tommy Thompson has raised $656,000 and former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann collected $518,000 over the last three months of 2011.
Fitzgerald says while he doesn't have the money his opponents do, he believes he can win by touting his accomplishments in the Assembly. Fitzgerald says he sees the race as a marathon, not a sprint.
The only announced Democratic candidate, U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, has raised the most. She brought in $1.1 million between October and December in the race to replace retiring Democratic U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl.
