MADISON - The state's wolf hunting season has come to a close.
Zone 3, the last of six wolf-harvest zones, closed at 5 p.m. Sunday. The other five zones had already been closed.
DNR officials say hunters and trappers in Zone 3 were one wolf away from filling the zone's quota the day before the season ended.
The agency closed it Sunday night in order to prevent over-harvest.
The hunt was capped at 116 wolves.
The season began October 15th and was set to close at the end of February, unless goals were reached before that date.
