MADISON - The state of Wisconsin is looking to hand out a lot of money to a lot of people.
State Treasurer Kurt Schuller is going through the unclaimed property, trying to give it back to its rightful owner. Schuller says he spends 6 to 8 hours a week personally calling people that have money waiting for them. He also travels around the state looking for people on the list.
Right now, there is $380 million in the unclaimed property fund. Some items are less than $10, but others are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
There are also items from safety deposit boxes, when the owner hasn't had contact with the bank for five years.
To find out if any of the unclaimed property belongs to you, call 1-877-699-9211. Or you can click here to go to the State Treasurer's website.
