MADISON (WMTV) - A 6-year-old with a big heart forgoes all of her birthday presents. Katelyn instead asked for donations and is now handing them over to the UW-Madison Police Department K-9 team.
About two years ago, K-9 "Rex" came to Katelyn's preschool class. He did some demonstrations. Since then, she's known she wants to become a K-9 handler.
This year for her birthday she decided to ask for money, instead of presents. Saturday afternoon at the first ever Dog Days of Summer Picnic in Madison, she handed over a $500 check.
That money will help buy a new K-9. One of the older dogs is going to retire soon. It costs about $60,000 for a dog.
