Madison man dies in biking crash

MADISON - A Madison man is dead after almost finishing a cross-country bike ride.

Chris Vogts, 25, was biking from Madison to New Orleans to meet friends.

800 miles into his trip, he was hit and killed by a van Friday night in Mississippi.

“If you want to know the really sad part, the day that he died, he had biked, we figured, about 140 miles and was only five miles from his final destination when he was hit. That's probably the worst part,” said Heather Vogts, sister of victim.

Vogts' sister says her brother had made several cross-country trips before.
