MADISON (AP) - A Madison woman made a surprising discovery while walking on the city's east side - cold, hard cash scattered in the snow.

Police say the woman found a large denomination bill, then another and another on Monday. The woman called police after finding the bills in the snow near the sidewalk. Authorities say the bills are legitimate currency. But, they wouldn't release the amount of cash found, in case someone comes forward to claim it.

Officers found no clues as to where the cash came from.

Lt. Cory Nelson tells the State Journal that if no valid claims for the cash are made, he thought it would be given to the woman who found it.
