MILWAUKEE (AP) - Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says he is "heartbroken" by the shooting rampage at a Connecticut school that killed more than two-dozen people.

In a statement, Barrett says he has "watched in horror" as mass shootings "have become all too common, including in our own community."

A white supremacist killed a half-dozen people at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee before killing himself in August. In October, a gunman fatally shot his estranged wife and two other women at a suburban Milwaukee spa before killing himself.

Barrett says as a community and a nation, "we cannot simply move on from today's tragedy." He says, "Too many lives have been taken, too many lives destroyed."
