MILWAUKEE (AP) - Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. will face a familiar challenger if he runs for re-election in 2014.
A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report says Milwaukee police Lt. Chris Moews plans to challenge Clarke again. Moews lost to Clarke in a 2010 Democratic primary by 6 percentage points.
Moews says he took issue with a recent radio ad in which the sheriff urged citizens to learn to use guns because "simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option."
The 41-year-old Moews called the ad irresponsible and said it undermined confidence in local police. He says Clarke is to blame for shortcomings in his office, not budget cuts that Clarke has often criticized.
Clarke didn't immediately respond to the newspaper's request for comment.
