NAACP request to stop voter ID denied

MADISON (AP) - A Wisconsin judge has denied a group's request to temporarily stop the state's new voter identification law from taking effect this month.

Dane County Circuit Court Judge David Flanagan denied the motion Wednesday for a temporary injunction. The NAACP filed the motion shortly after filing its lawsuit.

The NAACP's lawsuit included 40 affidavits describing plaintiffs' difficulties with complying with the law. But Flanagan says the affidavits do not sufficiently demonstrate irreparable harm to justify an injunction.

But Flanagan says measuring the law's impact is worth discussing in a trial. A court hearing is scheduled Monday.

Two other groups have filed lawsuits against the law. The League of Women Voters filed a lawsuit in Dane County Circuit Court. ACLU filed a lawsuit in federal court. Both are still pending.
