New Frank Lloyd Wright gallery open

RACINE - Wisconsin native Frank Lloyd Wright's ideas revolutionized American architecture, and his work has stood the test of time.

Now, to pay tribute to Wright and educate people about his legacy, SC Johnson is opening the exhibit "The SC Johnson Gallery: At Home with Frank Lloyd Wright in Racine."

"There are a lot of fascinating elements of Wright's career. He worked for over seven decades as an architect and he's America's most important architect. There's a lot to say about him," said Brady Roberts, The SC Johnson Gallery: At Home with Frank Lloyd Wright co-curator.

Each year, the gallery will feature a different architectural concept Wright innovated, starting with his Prairie-Style design.

"He invented at the beginning of the 20th Century here in the Midwest, responding to the flat prairie. His design is very low, horizontal, beautiful homes with open floor plans that were quite revolutionary," Roberts said.

The gallery has many artifacts from the early 1900s including drawings, blueprints and furniture.

"He was sort of obsessive about all of the design elements and you see that in the exhibition with the furniture all the way down to things like a vase," Roberts said.

Besides the exhibit, you can also see one of Frank Lloyd Wrights' masterpieces right on SC Johnson's campus, as he created the administration building.

"We offer a variety of free tour packages that range from an hour to three-and-a-half hours to visit the variety of buildings and the gallery on our campus," Greg Anderegg with SC Johnson said.
