MADISON - A group is hoping a new plan will help save two of Wisconsin's most well-known lakes.
The Clean Lakes Alliance unveiled a more than $78 million plan to reduce phosphorus runoff into Lake Monona and Lake Mendota in Madison.
The project would include better leaf collection in the area, and discussing with farmers the use of fertilizers.
Phosphorus is an acid which can be dangerous to plants and animals in the lakes.
The organization says the project will be paid for by a combination of public and private financing.
