MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Madison police say an officer has shot and killed a burglary suspect.
Police were called to a residence on the city's isthmus about 3 a.m. Friday on a report of a burglary in progress. A woman told police she could hear someone in the house and her husband and gone to investigate.
The first officer to arrive got into a fight with the suspected intruder and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer, a 15-year veteran, was not hurt and has been placed on administrative leave, standard protocol in an officer-involved shooting.
Police have described the suspect as a man in his 30s who lived in the neighborhood. Detectives are still investigating.
