HURLEY, Wis. (AP) - Police in the northern Wisconsin town of Hurley shot and killed an 85-year-old-man who they say had multiple firearms in his possession.

A press release from the Hurley Police Department says officers responded about 8:30 Friday morning to a report of a man with a gun at an apartment complex. It says the man retreated to his apartment and that police learned he had other weapons.

A local SWAT team was activated and neighboring residents were evacuated. The press release says the man refused contact with authorities, but provides no further details about the shooting.

Hurley Police Chief Dan Erspamer did not immediately respond to a phone message seeking more information. A dispatcher at the Iron County Sheriff's Department said no one was available to answer questions about the incident.
