Public golf course management changing

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Management of public golf courses in Wisconsin is changing as municipalities work to trim their budgets and increase revenue.
    
The city of Madison is following the lead of Fond du Lac and will take over management of its public courses in January. Four PGA pros will no longer run the Madison courses like small businesses, taking on responsibility for cart rentals, concessions and merchandise in exchange for sending a piece of the profits to the city.
    
Wisconsin PGA director Joe Stadler tells Wisconsin Public Radio Fond du Lac's course is managed by the county and has increased revenue about $30,000 a year. Stadler says successful publicly-managed courses have kept a PGA pro on staff, something Madison isn't planning to do.
