DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - Officials from the Lake County sheriff's department have recovered a body from the north shore of Lake Superior. A medical examiner is trying to identify it.
Authorities have been searching for 48-year-old Douglas R. Winter, a former Milwaukee Public Schools teacher who went missing in the lake last month while kayaking.
Lake County Sheriff Carey Johnson says the body was recovered just north of Two Harbors in the Flood Bay area, the same area authorities believe the waves would have taken Winter.
Winter was last heard from about 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 19.
The case remained active the past three weeks with no clues coming in the past two weeks until the find Thursday afternoon.
