STEVENS POINT (AP) - Prosecutors in Portage County say a 25-year-old man twice threw his girlfriend's two-year-old son to the ground to try to stop him from crying. Felix Espinoza-Villa suffered multiple blunt force injuries and a severed spine and died two days later.
Reymundo Perez is charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the child's death last October. A criminal complaint says after Perez twice threw the boy to the ground, then put him on the couch to sleep. It says when Perez tried to wake him, the toddler wasn't breathing and he was bleeding from the mouth.
Perez's attorney, Gary Schmaus, declined comment pending a review of the complaint.
WAOW-TV reports the boy's mother has been charged with beating her son. But the charge is unrelated to his death.
