MILWAUKEE (AP) - A teen is sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in a robbery that left a pregnant woman dying on a Milwaukee street.
Eighteen-year-old Jimmy Scales of Cudahy was driving the getaway van when two other teens robbed 34-year-old Sharon Staples on Aug. 7. Staples, who was pregnant, was shot in front of her 13-year-old son after she wouldn't give up her purse.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports Scales was on parole for a similar role in a 2008 homicide at the time. He pleaded guilty in January to felony murder.
Circuit Judge David Borowski called Scales a "menace to society."
Scales made a short apology to Staples' family and his own in court Friday.
His co-defendants have also pleaded guilty and will be sentenced June 29.
