Walker calls special election to fill vacancy

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A special election to fill Wisconsin's vacant 98th state Assembly district seat in Waukesha County will coincide with the spring election dates in February and April.

Gov. Scott Walker said Monday that the election for the seat will be April 2. If a primary is needed, it will be on Feb. 19.

The vacancy was created by Rep. Paul Farrow's victory in an uncontested special election for the state Senate.

Walker says picking dates that coincide with the spring election will help reduce costs to taxpayers.

Four Republican candidates have already announced they are running for the open seat. They are Jeanne Tarantino, Adam Neylon, Todd Greenwald, and Matt Morzy.
