RACINE, Wis. (AP) - A Racine woman convicted of failing to act while her boyfriend inflicted fatal injuries on her daughter has been sentenced to two years in prison.
A Journal Times of Racine report says 24-year-old Cheyenna White broke down in tears during her hearing Friday. She says the loss of her child was more punishment than anything a person could mete out.
White was the mother of 2-year-old Donnasia Jackson. Prosecutors say Donnasia died in October 2011 after White's boyfriend slammed her to the ground at least a dozen times.
The boyfriend, Andre Knighton, pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless homicide. He was previously sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors say White waited eight hours to seek medical treatment. An autopsy says the girl's injuries included a severe skull fracture.
