Natural Resources Board to reconsider air pollution rules

MADISON (AP) - The state Natural Resources Board is set to consider revisions to air pollution rules next week after federal environmental officials warned the regulations aren't sufficient.

Officials with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notified the state Department of Natural Resources in April 2010 the agency's regulations governing emissions in southeastern Wisconsin don't meet the EPA's standards.

The agency wants the DNR to more clearly define record-keeping requirements, revise limits on volatile compounds in solvents and remove certain exemptions from industrial cleaning requirements.

The EPA must approve the changes before seven southeastern Wisconsin counties can be re-designated as an ozone attainment area. The board is set to consider the changes at a meeting Wednesday in Spring Green.
