Polls in Wisconsin close at 8 p.m.

GREEN BAY - A rather smooth Wisconsin Election Day so far with only minor equipment breakdowns as the polls are open for a few more hours.

Election officials have been busy here in the battleground state of Wisconsin.

Hundreds of people showed up to the Cross Walk Church in Appleton Tuesday morning right after the polls opened.

Experts believe nearly 70 percent of eligible voters will cast a ballot.

At Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Green Bay, people are just getting off work and poll workers are expecting it to get busy.

The polls have been open since 7 a.m.

Election officials say they've seen a pretty steady turnout, with some busy periods throughout the day.

Voters we spoke with say they're here because it's their civic duty, and add they're glad election season has come to an end.

“I'm very happy that it will be over, and we can just go on with our life and try to become better people, better citizens and just do what needs to be done and go a little bit further,” said Beau Jenkel-Oliver of Green Bay.

“Really, really good. We're over 50 percent already and it's only 3:00 so it's been very good,” said chief inspector Lois Bodart.

The polls are open until 8 p.m. and election officials say they expect turnout to be steady throughout.
