MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers signed veteran pitcher Tom Gorzellany, giving the team the left-handed pitcher it needed for its bullpen.

The team announced the move in a press release Tuesday.

Gorzellany, 30, signed a two-year deal worth nearly $6 million. He went 4-2 with a 2.88 ERA and 1 save in 45 games (1 start) with Washington last season. After struggling with a 6.17 ERA during April, he rebounded with a 2.24 ERA the rest of the season. He posted a 1.33 ERA out of the bullpen following the All-Star Break, which tied for seventh among Major League relievers.

Brewers fans may recognize Gorzellany from his time with National League Central rivals Chicago and Pittsburgh. Gorzelanny is 44-45 with a 4.41 ERA and 2 saves in 193 games (111 starts) during eight Major League seasons with Pittsburgh (2005-09), Chicago-NL (2009-10) and Washington (2011-12). He is 35-42 with a 4.61 ERA as a starter (621ip, 318er) and 9-3 with a 3.32 ERA as a reliever (114ip, 42er).

2012 was Gorzellany's first season as a full-time relief pitcher.
