MILWAUKEE - Outfielder Carlos Gomez will remain a Brewer through the 2016 season.
The team announced it had signed the 27-year-old Gomez to a three-year extension on Wednesday.
“We are happy that Carlos has decided to remain a Brewer for a number of years,” said Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin. “He has always had the physical skills, and his recent performance has given us the confidence that he will take the next step in becoming one of the top center fielders in the game. His energy, speed and aggressive style of play is a perfect fit for Ron Roenicke’s style of managing.”
Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy said on Twitter that the terms of the deal were $7 million in 2014, $8 million in 2015 and $9 million in 2016.
Gomez would have been eligible for free agency following the 2013 season. He hit .260 with 19 homeruns, 51 RBI and 37 stolen bases in 137 games with the Brewers in 2012.
Gomez was selected to the Dominican Republic's provisional roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic, but elected not to play.
