MADISON - The University of Wisconsin football team will have a different look when it takes the field at Nebraska this year.
The university unveiled new alternate uniforms for the Badgers Monday. The uniforms will be worn when Wisconsin opens its Big Ten Conference season Sept. 29 at Nebraska.
The new uniforms are part of Adidas’ “Unrivaled Game” promotion. Both Wisconsin and Nebraska use Adidas as their athletic outfitters.
Watch as coach Bret Bielema unveils the uniform to the team:
The uniform features a red helmet with a black face mask, white stripe and a large “W” on the side. The “W” is patterned after the insignia on the helmets of the 1962 Big Ten championship team.
The jersey has the same “W” on the center front, with the player’s number in the upper right. A red stripe travels from the neckline to the sleeve of the white jersey. The pants are white with red stripes. Players will also wear red gloves with the “W” on the palms.
According to Adidas, the jerseys are 30 percent lighter than standard football jerseys.
The game between Wisconsin and Nebraska will mark the Badgers’ first trip to Lincoln since the Cornhuskers joined the Big Ten last year.
