DE PERE - Drew Nowak's football journey has taken him from De Pere Redbird, to Western Michigan Bronco, and now Jacksonville Jaguar. The first year pro is currently on the injured reserve after suffering a preseason foot injury.

The 2012 season can almost be seen as a redshirt season for Nowak as he transitions from defensive tackle to offensive guard.

"Really I'm just working out going to meetings trying to learn my new position and make sure when I come back I'm confident in my abilities and confident in the plays so I can just jump in ready to go,” said Nowak.

Nowak has found a mentor in his transition to the offensive line, frequently sitting down with 13-year center Brad Meester.

"I meet with him once or twice a week and we go over blocking schemes and protections,” said Nowak. “He's just been really willing to help me out and I'm pretty thankful for that."

With the input from Meester and Nowak’s past as a Mid-American Conference defensive MVP, he brings a unique perspective to the offensive line.

"I think it allows me to handle what the defense is doing better because I know what's coming at me,” said Nowak. He cited one example, “Like when they run games on the defensive line I can pass them off better because I know what their tendencies are and how they're going to act when they do the move.”

Like many new college graduates, Nowak was excited to get those first paychecks and enjoy financial independence, including his first big purchases as a pro.

“I had two things,” said Nowak with a noticeable grin. “I've always wanted a recliner so I got an electric recliner and then I wanted a big TV so I got a 51 inch TV. So that's all I need is to come home sit in my recliner and watch my big TV.”

You won't need a TV to see Nowak's Jaguars. They play here at Lambeau October 28th.
