Waupaca - Chess club at Waupaca high school performs just like a team.
Like any team , they practice.
“The kids will come over here on Tuesday and Thursdays after school and play chess,” Mr. Hiddemen, chess team coach.
The Chess team is open to all students, and breaking stereotypes; Alex Librande, a football player, has been a chess player since first grade.
“Our football team has a lot of smart guys on the team. We break the mold pre say,” says Alex Librande, chess team member.
This team performs at a local level but, Senior Jake Foss is looking forward to a bigger championship.
“We’re playing at the national championship in Nashville this year,”says Jake Foss, chess team member.
“I’ll probably win about ha lf my games. So I’ll break even,” says Jake Foss, chess team member.
The Chess team knows that winning isn’t everything, but it sure is fun!
“We’re looking forward to a good season this year,” adds Hiddemen.
