Honoring a student at Southwest

Green Bay - “Ben Reynebeau was an old football teammate of mine and a classmate and in 7 th grade he got in a really bad car accident and had traumatic brain injury," Matt McMahon Senior at Southwest High School," says Matt.

And they’re planning to honor him

“We surprised him with an invite to be our honorary team captain for the homecoming game,” says Matt

“He is also going to lead our team out when we do senior march. He’ll come out with the coin toss. We are also making a bunch of t-shirts for Ben that look like model jersey that say; Reynebeau on the back so everyone will be wearing those in the student section for the game,” says Matt.

And those t-shirts are going to help Ben and his family.

“We’re selling the t-shirts all week here in school and then the money will go and help the Reynebeau family with their medical expenses for Ben,” says Matt McMahon senior at Southwest High School," says Matt.

He thanks his football coach and the rest of the team for helping him come up with this idea.

“In football every week we do a word of the week two weeks ago was self-less service I was just thinking of Ben and thinking of something we could do as a football team to help him cause Ben would be a senior this year and he would definitely be on the team if he was healthy and so I thought this was just a perfect idea to honor him,” says Matt.

Matt isn't the only student at Southwest that keeps in touch.

“There’s a lot of people from this school who keep in touch with Ben and his family so he knows we still care about him and we will definitely never forget Ben,” says Matt.

Matt never imaged his idea would get this much attention.

“But, then the idea just exploded and it became a school wide thing which is pretty inspirational,” says Matt.
