GREEN BAY - Next football season when Ashwaubenon hosts Green Bay Preble on Aug. 23 it’ll be opening the season on a new field.
The Jaguars will replace their grass field with a synthetic surface, which is similar to the surfaces at West De Pere, Notre Dame, Kimberly and St. Norbert College.
The new surface will allow Ashwaubenon to host multiple sporting events, including postseason football games.
"I am extremely proud of the community committee, lead by Mr. Bob Monroe and Mr. Mike Brenwall, to have worked as hard as they have to be close to reaching the privately funded financial goals that the committee set this past September,” Ashwaubenon athletics director Dave Steavpack said. “With limited green space between two schools (Ashwaubenon High and Parkview Middle) the multi-use, synthetic surface field will be utilized 12 times the amount that it currently is.
“We still have some fund-raising to go, but I am confident that this community, as they always have, will support the committee and the efforts that they are putting in to make this project happen.”
Ashwaubenon’s soccer teams will continue to play at Cornerstone Community Center.
