LITTLE CHUTE - Turner Botz couldn't even pretend not to know how close he was. A white board in the student section made sure of that.
"I knew, I've been getting told all week," Botz said. "It's something I've been working for, four years now so it feels good."
The basket that pushed Botz's career total to 966 broke the previous record which stood since 1994.
"I couldn't do it without my teammates or coaches that i have the honor to play with," Botz said. "I'm extremely blessed to play at such great school. It feels great to finally get the record, I couldn't do it without my teammates or coaches."
"Turner's the one, the heart and soul of our program," said Little Chute coach Mickey Martin. "He's the one that's in here all the time, shooting on weekends, his dad being superintendent he can get in the gym whenever he wants, i think that helps. I'm really happy for him, he struggled a little bit late, played through a bit of an injury lately. I thought, not only offensively breaking the scoring record, I thought he was lights out playing defense on Sandy Cohen, because Cohen's the real deal."
Botz, mobbed after the game, insisted credit go to his teammates, and says those are the guys that will key any kind of Little Chute postseason run.
"We're a complete team, we're not a one- or two-man show," Botz said. "We've got guys seven or eight deep that can come in and contribute. We're going to be tough if we keep doing that."
