GREEN BAY - Most conference races won’t be decided for about another month, but this week in the Fox River Classic Conference games don’t get much bigger, at least in the regular season.
Tuesday, two gi-normous FRCC boys games are on tap as De Pere puts its perfect conference mark at risk when its hosts Sheboygan North, which has two league losses. In the teams’ first meeting, De Pere outlasted North, 81-79, in triple overtime.
Meanwhile, Bay Port is out for revenge when it hosts Pulaski in a battle of one-loss FRCC teams. Pulaski edged Bay Port in the teams’ first meeting, 51-47.
The De Pere-North game is the bigger game, because if De Pere wins, it basically ends North’s run at a chance of at least sharing a league title. Also, a De Pere win means the Bay Port-Pulaski loser falls two back.
North, however, can make the FRCC race arguably the best in the area to watch if it beats De Pere. All four teams would remain in the race with these key remaining matchups – Bay Port at De Pere and Sheboygan North at Pulaski - playing a huge role in the final standings.
While these four teams are the class of the FRCC, they also are four of the best in the area. In this Week’s FOX 11 Top 11 boys basketball poll, Little Chute holds down the No. 1 spot, and then the FRCC powers enter, as De Pere is No. 2, Pulaski No. 3, Sheboygan North No. 4 and Bay Port No. 5.
Luxemburg-Casco was the lone team to drop from the poll after the Spartans lost road games to Shawano and Seymour. L-C was replaced in the poll by No. 11 Kimberly.
Meanwhile, in the girls poll, New London, like Little Chute, holds onto to No. 1 and there was no movement in the top seven this week. In order, 2-7 remain Appleton East, Sheboygan North, Bay Port, Oshkosh Lourdes, Algoma and Kewaunee.
Meanwhile, two Fox Valley Association teams dropped out of the poll – Oshkosh West and Kimberly. West lost to Appleton East in a battle of FVA leaders, while Kimberly fell to Appleton North.
The two FVA schools were replaced by undefeated Brillion and Appleton North.
