Steve Jung, a former Neenah football standout, has been named the school’s head football coach.
Jung, a 1986 Neenah alum, has been the head coach at Wausau East he past two years. He also coached 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Appleton East and was the head coach for two seasons at Waukesha North in 1997 and 1998.
“This is a great day for Neenah football,” Neenah athletics director Jim Strick said. “Steve is an experienced head coach in the Valley Football Association and still has strong ties to Neenah. He is a high-energy individual who did a tremendous job in revitalizing Wausau East’s program in just two years.”
Jung led Wausau East to a 4-3 record in the Valley Football Association-North and WIAA playoff appearances in each of his two seasons with the Lumberjacks. He was the conference coach of the year his first season in 2011. Jung posted a 9-10 overall record in his two seasons at East, which was a combined 2-25 in the three seasons prior to Jung’s arrival.
Jung was the offensive coordinator at Appleton East from 2007-10 and the Patriots’ defensive coordinator from 2001-06. He also was the offensive line coach and head track and field coach at Lawrence University for two seasons in 2000-01.
Jung replaces Kert Dietrich, who resigned after four years as head coach.
