Winter Storm Felicia canceled classes for some schools Friday, but it also canceled some sporting events.
This court at Green Bay Southwest High School is silent: Bleachers put away, the officials table unoccupied for one more day.
"These are exciting times for the kids and the coaches and the parents and to have a delay or postponement is always a difficult thing. But as an activities director, we're always aware of this type of thing,” said Willie Birkholz.
Green Bay Area Public Schools canceled classes Friday.
That means all activities, even the WIAA boys basketball regional play off games were scratched.
"Unfortunately, we view it as if there’s a safety issue there enough to cancel schools, all activities are canceled as well,” said Mark Smith, the executive director of secondary schools, activities and athletics for the Green Bay Area Public School District.
Yet it's game on for Menasha at Pulaski, and Oshkosh West at Oshkosh North. The WIAA says it works with the different district's cancellation policies, and has a contingency plan in place if bad weather strikes.
The game featuring Kimberly at Green Bay Southwest will now be played Saturday at seven. It's the same case for Green Bay Preble at De Pere.
The winners of those games will then face off in the regional final on Monday at 7 p.m.
Athletic directors say players are anxious to get out here on the hardwood. However, they don't think the cancellation will effect how the game is played.
"It's the point in the season where the kids are prepared and the coaches are prepared. You have to play the games and you have to win the games to move on,” said Birkholz.
In all, 13 games were postponed to Saturday.
