Green Bay - Even goalies who aren't superstitious have their routines.

"I do one swipe across. Then, I go inside. Then, I go all the way outside. Then, I tap it," said Gamblers goalie Steve Summerhays.

Summerhays picked up the routine as a kid, watching his hometown Alaska Aces. But, he didn't implement the routine until later.

"Played two, three years in Alaska as a forward. The captain on our team got in a car accident and broke both his legs."

So, Summerhays took over and it hasn't been easy.

"Last year I was an 18th round pick, very last round," said Summerhays. "A lot of people didn't think I'd be a contributor. Here I'm in 1st place."

"He used to chase pucks in the past. Now he just consumes them, lets them hit him," said Gamblers coach Jon Cooper. "He's a calming influence back there."

The future is bright for the former forward turned goalie. While he hasn't signed with a college team yet, he's receiving more and more interest from Division 1 programs.

"I kind of want to play out east: Maine, New Hampshire, or Boston," said Summerhays. "So, if any of those schools are interested that would be great."

Regardless of where Summerhays ends up, he won't forget where he came from. A quick look at his helmet reminds him why.

"Those are the mountains, the Northern Lights, and the Big Dipper."
