APPLETON - Outdoor Life magazine has named Appleton, Wisconsin as its best town for sportsmen.
In a blog post on the magazine's website, Appleton is listed as number one due in part to its "prime hunting and fishing grounds" that net great results for sportsmen. The blog post says deer killed within 50 miles of Appleton have broken or threatened state records in each of the past three years. Areas to hunt bear, grouse and geese are also near the Appleton area.
Lake Winnebago and the Fox River also contributed to Appleton's number one ranking, with plenty of ample spots for fishermen to track down walleye, bass, pan fish and muskie not too far north.
The list of top cities for sportsmen (included below) will appear in the May issue of Outdoor Life, to see the article on the magazine's website, click here.
