Sturgeon spearing ends on upriver lakes

OSHKOSH - Spearers harvested 26 sturgeon on the upriver lakes Tuesday, the final day of the season on the upriver system.

The 90 percent trigger was hit for adult female sturgeon on the upriver lakes on Monday.  That gave people one more day to bag a sturgeon on the system. 261 sturgeon were registered during the 2013 season on the upriver lakes. The four-day season ties for the second shortest season on the upriver lakes since the fish lottery began in 2007.

Numbers continued to be low on Lake Winnebago Tuesday, where only seven total sturgeon were registered.  Registration stations at the Harrison Town Hall and Payne's Point remain closed due to low numbers.
