"Chico Cheeseheads" support Rodgers

Fans in QB's hometown are Packer proud

Asked after the Vikings playoff win about getting the chance to play a playoff game back home, Aaron Rodgers quickly corrected, San Francisco isn't home, he's from Chico. Rodgers is very proud of where he's from, and in turn, there's an area about 3 hours north of "The City by the Bay" that has their eyes trained to Green Bay.

"They've adopted [the Packers] as their own team for those who didn't have a team to begin with," said Travis Souders, sports writer for the Chico Enterprise Record.

Rodgers starred at Chico's Pleasant Valley High School before playing at nearby Butte College. Rodgers went on to play at Cal, but he still mentions his days at Butte often. That word travels back near home, which his fans appreciate.

"That's the part, from the community, they really look at, and really adore him for," said Souders.

Souders says he sees quite a few 'Chico Packers' shirts around town. He also says there are lots of 49ers fans but should Green Bay win Saturday, there will be plenty of converted Packers fans. That's exactly what happened, he says, during the 2010 playoff run.

"Once it was pretty clear the Packers were the only local interest here, it was Chico Packers all the way," said Souders. "People painting their cars green and gold, that kind of thing."

The Packers visit the 49ers Saturday. Kickoff on FOX 11 is set for 7 p.m.
