Johnny Jolly wants back in the NFL

Packers still hold rights to suspended DT

Johnny Jolly was suspended from the NFL in 2009 after several drug possession arrests. Now, he's trying to make a comeback.

The National Football Post, a media outlet co-owned by Jolly's agent, reported Jolly sent a letter asking for reinstatement to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Jolly was suspended two weeks before training camp in 2010 after being arrested for possession of codeine. He was sentenced to six years in a Texas prison, but was released after a month on "shock" probation.

Jolly told the Post he has been sober for eight months and is subjected to "regular drug tests."

“It was very hard and painful being in jail,” Jolly said in the interview with the Post. “Being away from your family, it hurt me bad. Everyone looks up to you is like … it hurts them too. It’s so hard to adjust. But when I was in there I learned that I had to find out who my real friends was, to sit down and go over myself and examine myself and see who I really was.”

Packers GM Ted Thompson was out of town and could not be reached for comment. The Packers have followed a policy of not commenting on Jolly's situation in the past.

The NFL has made a statement on whether or not Jolly may be reinstated.
