GREEN BAY - The NFL has approved the Packers' request for $58 million in G4 money.
It will help pay for most of the rest of the $143 million renovation of Lambeau Field not covered by the team's stock sale which raised $67 million.
What is G4? It's a league program that helps teams pay for new stadiums, as well as updating old ones.
Packers officials say it will reduce the amount of money the Packers will have to borrow.
Lambeau Field's 2003 renovation largely paid by a new sales tax also benefited from a similar program.
"Players as well as owners equally invest in stadiums, and the thought is, everyone benefits. You know, fans have a better experience. The new stadiums provide, also provide additional revenue," said Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy.
6,700 more seats next year, plus a new sound system and video boards this year are included.
The $18 million or so not covered by the league or the stock sale, will come from Stadium District user fees and borrowing.
