Packers defense on its way

GREEN BAY - The Packers’ formula for success last season was to stack up the points and force the opponent into turnovers.

Thursday night, the defense was the aggressor making life miserable for Jay Cutler and the revamped Bears offense.

The defense totaled 7 sacks, 3 ½ coming from Clay Matthews, and recorded 12 quarterback hits.

They also picked off Cutler 4 times in the game, including two by Tramon Williams.

After struggling last season and looking lost at times in the opener against the 49ers, the defense sees this effort as a step in the right direction... even they were a little surprised by the dominant effort.

“I mean I don't know if I would have predicted that we play this well and hold them to that total of yards, but this is the kind of performance that you love to get out of your defense. I think we're on our way to becoming a good defense. It's still early, but, we're going to be alright,” said Packers defensive back Charles Woodson.

“It's like a kid with new toys, he had a couple new receivers but at the end of the day you have to be able to get the ball to those guys. We knew that our guys would get after him,” said Packers cornerback Tramon Williams.
