GREEN BAY - The Packers pride themselves on the culture they cultivate around the locker room and part of that is keeping team issues in house. That philosophy doesn’t necessarily extend to those who aren’t on the team’s payroll.
NFL agent Blake Baratz, who represents Jermichael Finley among others, had some less than flattering words about Aaron Rodgers via Twitter earlier this week.
The statement was made was made while in a discussion about the elite quarterbacks in the NFL and why he didn't include Rodgers.
"ARod is a great QB he isn't a great leader. There's a major difference. Leaders take the blame & make every1 better. He doesn't."
Rodgers addressed the issue during his weekly press conference saying, "I think I've made it a point for most of my career not to comment on people’s opinions outside of the facility. It's the same thing if somebody if the 5 guys burger would say something about me if he didn't like the way I was tipping.”
Rodgers went on to say he’s comfortable with his position with in the team and that this is a non-issue.
"It's not even something I feel like I had to have a sit down conversation with Jermichael about because it didn't come from him and honestly it's something that I'm comfortable with and I feel like the guys in the locker room are as well."
Finley said that he doesn’t control what his agent says and that because of his long list of clients in the NFL the statement could have been based on something that’s been said by any number of players. Finley went on to pledge his support to Rodgers saying, "He’s the leader of this team and he's the man and I respect him as a player. Outside of the locker room I'm a fan of Aaron Rodgers so we all good."
Bryan Bulaga is used to protecting Rodgers from pass rushers and was quick to defend his quarterback’s name and reputation.
"He's hands down our leader especially on the offensive side; his leadership abilities in the huddle and in the locker room are second to none."
Wide receiver Jordy Nelson agreed that the everything the Packers do whether on the field or off begins with the tone Rodgers sets.
"He's the guy that's going to lead us where we're going to go on and off the field in meeting rooms. He's spoken up. He's going to hold everyone accountable just like we're going to hold him accountable,” said Nelson.
