Senate last stop for Vikings stadium

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Senate has opened debate on a Vikings stadium plan, and their vote could effectively wrap up the team's long desire for a new home with the help of public money.

Gov. Mark Dayton has said he will sign the bill for a $975 million stadium if it reaches his desk. The House approved the plan in the early-morning hours Thursday.

The stadium bill was changed in committee to shift $50 million of the cost from the state to the team. The Vikings share would be $477 million, or about 49 percent of the construction costs.

The state and the city of Minneapolis would share the rest.

The Vikings say they can't make money in the outdated Metrodome, and fans have feared they would move without a new stadium.
