GREEN BAY - The Green Bay women’s basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season, its best start since the 2004-05 season, with a 66-48 victory over Chicago State at the Kress Events Center Wednesday night.

Kati Harty had a perfect night from the field, as well as from the line to lead the Phoenix with 13 points, one of three players in double figures for the Phoenix. Heather Golden came off the bench to score 11 points and Lavesa Glover pitched in 10 points.

For the third straight game, the Phoenix built a big lead from the outset. Less than four minutes into the game, Green Bay was up 11-0. Chicago State’s first field goal came at the 12:56 mark of the first half after missing its first nine shots of the game.

Even through their poor shooting night, the Panthers pulled to within six points in the second half. Then Green Bay went on a 10-2 run to build a more comfortable 45-31 lead. During the run, the Cougars were just 1-of-8 from the floor missing two layups, two free throws, and committing two turnovers.

Though Green Bay uncharacteristically shot just 3-of-18 from the three-point line (it had entered the game shooting nearly 45%), and leading scorer Rachel Porath was held to just two points, the Phoenix shot well from inside the arc hitting 23-of-36 attempts (64%). By contrast, Chicago State made just 14 field goals for the game at just a 26% clip.

Had it not been for Jasmin Dixon, the Cougars would have been long out of the game before the Phoenix pulled away in the second half. Dixon scored 26 points. No one else for Chicago State scored more than eight.

Green Bay will host Drake Saturday at the Kress Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
