GRAND CHUTE - Zac Peterson's suicide squeeze bunt with the bases loaded in the
eighth inning gave Bay Port a 3-2 win over Wilmot for the Division
1 title of the WIAA state baseball tournament Thursday.
Josh Jaro hit a one-out single in the eighth inning to ignite
the winning rally.
Bay Port (26-5) scored twice in the fourth but Wilmot (24-6)
tied it with a two-run rally in the seventh.
Bay Port won its first state title in its seventh appearance
in the state meet.
With runners at second and third in the bottom of the seventh,
Ethan Miller struck out the next three batters as Marion held on to
win its first state championship 6-5 over Chippewa Falls McDonell
in WIAA Division 4 Thursday.
Miller relieved Cody Riemer in the fourth and fanned seven to
earn the win.
Marion (27-2) scored all of its runs in the third on a triple
by Riemer, doubles by Miller and Tyler Scohen, and singles by Sean
Kallas, Eric Kroening and Justin Remminger.
McDonell (22-5) got a solo homer from Andy Davis, who had two
hits, as did Robby Cooper and Jake Bohl.
