If hunters in Wisconsin were upset with the number of deer last
year, the news released by the Wisconsin DNR today is not going to
make them any happier.
According to the DNR, Wisconsin wildlife biologists
anticipate the statewide deer harvest will be lower than last year.
The reasons the DNR says the harvest is expected to be down
are: fewer herd control units, no earn-a-buck requirement, below
average fawn production, a reduced number of antlerless permits and
a delayed corn harvest due to wet fields.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin officials are trying to make it easier
to understand the rules for hunting.
For the first time, the regulations are being translated into
Spanish and Hmong. The translated rules in both languages are
available online through the DNR.
